Betrayed, abandoned, and falsely arrested, Jesus makes his way to the cross via a whirlwind of political and ecclesiastical wickedness. He faces the shame of mocking scorn and blasphemous mistreatment from the many powerful and not-so-powerful men of Jerusalem and Rome. Yet he holds his own with a resolve to speak or remain silent in a way that his honor (and the Father's) remains central. Jesus knows this is his hour for suffering and he bears such rejection and curse for the sake of those he comes to redeem from the shame of sin. He bore our shame that we'd receive his glory as the truly sinless son of the Father.
