Pointing us toward the heroic Biblical story of David's battle with Goliath, Pastor Joe Tyrpak discusses what the man after God's own heart looks like. To get there, he divides this powerful message into four points: Be warned by Saul; Wonder at David; Worship Jesus; and Walk like a Christian. Here's one of many highlights from the sermon …
“All of us should be warned; every one of us in here. Whether we profess to be a Christian, whether we're not sure, or whether we've been a Christian for awhile. You don't want God? You want to “turn God off” in your conscience? Watch out! He might just give you your way. Proverbs 1 says if you ignore God's reproof and don't choose the path of obedience (the Fear of the Lord), you'll eventually be glutted with the consequences of your own choices.
“This could apply to Christians. I'd say beware of backsliding. It's often little step by little step … I firmly believe in Eternal Security. Once saved, always saved. When God saves, He saves forever. But do not let your conviction regarding eternal security dull your commitment to persevere in fighting your sin and in fighting against the temptations of the world.
“This applies to non-Christians. God has been graciously drawing you. You've been learning more and more about the Bible. Beware of ignoring God. Beware of saying, ‘Maybe later.' Beware of turning God's voice off in your conscience, because maybe He just will.
