The Topic of The Sermon: "Ye Ought To Say, If the Lord Wills" The Text: James 4: 13-17 In the portion of James' epistle which we have been studying for several weeks.....the apostle deals with several characteristics of the worldliness.
The over all character of the world system which has been wrecked and ruined by sin....and is influenced by Satan.....is its rebellion against God.
This world system and God.....are irreconcilable enemies.
This truth is clearly stated by the apostle in.......James 4:4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.In our text which we will be considering this morning......we find that one of the characteristics of those who are worldly minded is that of an unwarranted presuming upon the future. In opening up this portion of Scripture......we will do so under these headings.... 1) We will seek to determine the meaning of the passage. 2) Define sinful presumption. 3) Make practical applications.
The meaning of the apostle's injunction is plainly this, that at all times, in reference to everything, when looking forward, we should remember reverentially, thankfully, lovingly, God's providential government of the world, and our absolute dependence on His will for continued life and health, and for the accomplishment of any purpose of expectation ...."
