The word repent does not appear in the parable of the prodigal son. But in Jesus’ story of the wayward son’s homecoming, He gives us perhaps the clearest picture in all of Scripture of what genuine repentance really is … and is not. The wayward son “came to himself,” returned to his father and declared: “ . . . I have sinned against heaven and in your sight and am no longer worthy to be called your son, ” Luke 15:21 (NKJV). The son’s measurable repentance was met with his father’s joy and restoration – not condemnation. In this message, we’ll continue our study of Luke 15 with, “ The Road to Restoration”.
