David's sin resulted in God's judgment coming upon his house and kingdom and this judgment continued into Solomon's reign. Though Solomon was the first referent of the Davidic Covenant's promise of a seed, Solomon's own reign was marred by failure. He was the son of David appointed to build the Lord's house, but he ruled according to the "procedure of the king." Solomon contributed to the prophetic portrait of the Davidic son who would build Yahweh's house - and in whom David's own house, throne and kingdom would be established, but he was not that son.
