As we come to the end of 2 Peter, Peter has just told us what to do - to keep a focus on eternal life and now he is going to tell us what not to do. Do not twist the Scriptures to say what you want them to say. That is how people come to their own destruction. Peter has warned us that false teachers make people comfortable in their own sin to lead them back into being entangled and overcome by the same errors from which they thought they had escaped. Now Peter ends the book saying, you know that the twisting of Scriptures is how you get removed from the foundation that is Christ. It is how you are led away with the error of the wicked. Knowing that is how you fall, go do the work to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord. When we approach Scripture, we are either approaching it to be instructed by God so that we can mature through the Word of God or we are approaching it to excuse our sin. The one leads to greater grace and the other leads to destruction. Choose wisely.
