The second of four messages on the Marriage Covenant. How are the vows you made at your wedding ceremony different from those God holds you to from His Word? What if your spouse does not fulfill his or her vows? To which of your vows are you freed by the behavior of your spouse? For most the vows of marriage are at best romantic poetry and at worst a formality. Few study their vows beforehand and fewer still, including those performing the service, seek to put together an inclusive list of Biblical vows to which God holds the couple. God has created such a list which can be gleaned from a careful study of His Word. He holds couples to these vows irrespective of their awareness of them. All young couples should study closely the vows to which God holds them before taking them before God. The disciples themselves, when coming to an understanding of God's standards concerning marriage responded – “then it is better not to marry”. If young couples understood more fully the vows they were making and to whom they were making them then far fewer would take their wedding ceremonies, their vows and yes their marriage so lightly.
