As we learned in the introduction, Moses' 120 years can be divided into three 40 year segments. Incredibly, Chapter 2 covers 80 of those years. Moses was hidden to avoid the death edict of Pharaoh, placed in an ark (basket) by mother into the Nile, and pulled out by Pharaoh's daughter. His first 40 years were spent being raised and living as Egyptian royalty. After killing and Egyptian who was abusing a Hebrew, he fled to the wilderness of Midian. Here he spent 40 years. He married, had children, and became a shepherd. The contrast between the first 40 and second 40 years is great.
