Date preached is unknown; it was added to the Young Preachers Series of tapes in 1963. In this message Evangelist Barnard continues to answer the question, What is the Gospel? And, How is the Gospel properly preached? He reveals and does not hide the tremendous SCANDAL of the Cross. It is not a pretty story but the heart of God's entire purpose is centered therein. Can we glory only in the Cross of our Lord Christ?
"I think if I had to choose my all-time FAVORITE Rolfe Barnard message — the one I've gone back to many times and never failed to be blessed by it — it would be 'THE PREACHING OF THE CROSS.' If you have never heard it, I envy you and the treat that is in store! May God bless it to many hearts, opening hearts to the truth and establishing God's elect therein" (W. Fulton).

IT MUST BE PREACHED The true gospel must be taught and must be believed for salvation. All of the things that mankind spends time on will not matter 1000 years from now except this. Wake up before it is too late.

Great Sermon! GOD IS SOVEREIGN. Reminded of what Paul said in Gal 6:14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, & I to the world. That the church would grasp this truth by faith & realize also what Paul meant when he said in Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in THE BODY, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Its not a christian trying to live a life. CHRIST IS THE LIFE, HE IS THE SALVATION for the elect.

Great Sermon! I just listened to Bro. Barnard's sermon, "The Preaching of the Cross"--an outstanding message! Bro. Barnard got it right as he shows the distinction between "preaching the death of Christ" and preaching "Jesus Christ and Him crucified" (1 Corinthians 1:23, 2:2; Galatians 6:14). This message needs to be heard by this generation of deceived preachers and lost church members!

Great Sermon! Great sermon, I do think though that a true believer needs to pursue knowing doctrine and especially the doctrine of election. We can't really know Christ or trust in Him as a person unless we know Him according to the scriptures (I Cor. 15:1-4). We are commanded in the scriptures to study them diligently and to know God in this way. In the wisdom of God He has ordained that salvation come to us through our understanding of the truth.

A Must Hear Sermon!!! Brother Rolfe preachers a sermon full of the wisdom that only comes from an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Please listen to this wonderful sermon and see if you are building your life and desires on the cross of Calvary. This sermon reminded me of the lines from the hymn 'when I survey the wondrous cross, on which the Prince of Glory died, my richest gain I count but loss and pour contempt on all my pride'. Praise God that he chose to preserve this wondeful sermon.
Rolfe Barnard (1904-1969) was evidently a prophet from God for the 20th Century. With a profound sense of the absolute sovereignty and glory of Jesus Christ, he was able to preach a message that produced conviction of sin. He maintained through all his ministry what he himself...
