A powerful pivot point emerges in verse 20 in the words "but you" to signal that Paul is drawing a contrast between two ways of living. In verses 17-19, Paul portrays the Gentile life as one of darkness manifested in fleshly works; but, in verse 20-24 he shows that the Christian life must be radically different. Having "learned Christ" the believer is to commit to progressively killing their own sins and seeking renewal in the image of God. By living in this way the believer gives expression to the reality and truth of their conversion to Christ.
