When Tragedy strikes
We get a sense of underlying meaning from the very wording of that title. It is as if tragedy itself has its own will and purpose to destroy us -- that it wants to strike, cause suffering, and ultimately destroy. And it implies that you have no choice in the matter – that you have no control. But, is that accurate?
This kind of language ascribes to tragedy a sort of anthropomorphic power. But listen, the power is in Jesus. The power is in his blood. Neither tragedy, nor grief, nor despair, nor discouragement, nor pain, nor suffering shall have control over you. Sin shall not have dominion over you. Death shall not have dominion over you.
You are not under the law, but under grace, and if you are not under the law, then neither are you bound by the forces of fate or any other such forces. You are the Lord's!
Do you have any control? Is there anything you can do? How should you handle it? Or, should you try to handle it? |
