The proclamation of the gospel is the means whereby we are brought to true sanctified obedience by the Spirit and presented as an offering worthy of being accepted by God. Paul had a high view of this priestly ministry as he saw Gentiles subdued by this overwhelming word of grace and brought to the obedience of faith, sharing in the incalculable spiritual blessing promised to the Jews through Abraham. Such a ministry can claim nothing of itself but only glory in what Christ is accomplishing through it to restore nations from their unbelief and idolatry to true obedience and worship. The church desperately needs such a God-centred gospel or we will find ourselves caving in with despair over the capitulation of Western society to the barren wastelands of secular humanism and trading with a man-centered gospel that does not have the power to unseat the proud imaginations of the human heart.
