Who is Jesus Christ? The answer to this question forms the basis for answering the question as to who God is and what is the nature of salvation. The scriptures are clear that the eternal Son of God took upon himself our full human nature, excepting sin, and thus in one person are united full deity and full humanity in one person. He had to be fully human in order to perfectly obey God's law and die in our place to absorb the wrath of God that was directed towards his people. He had to be fully God in order to be the substitutionary sacrifice that could die and rise in behalf of a great multitude of his people. Jesus lost none of his deity when he added humanity to his person. He is not only the incarnate God but also our brother who shares our nature. Thanks be to God for providing such a Savior for us his people.
