Transcript of the segment on Understanding Suffering: Scripture shows us that suffering can be understood in three ways. Firstly, suffering can result from a God-cursed world. Second, suffering also results from our sin. And thirdly, suffering results from persecution for the sake of Christ. The first kind of suffering results from living in a fallen world. Because of man’s rebellion against God and his fall into sin, God has cursed the same world which he created ‘very good’. In Genesis chapter 3, we read where God speaks to Adam and Eve. And to Adam he said, “…cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Brothers and sisters, this is a snapshot of what life under the curse looks like. Such a life is absolutely inescapable. None of us, none of us can evade such a reality. The life we live at this present time, Paul says, is marked with suffering. None of us say that triumphalistically
