While Ruth is a type of a saved sinner, Orpah is a type of a lost sinner. Boaz as our kinsman redeemer stands as a type of Christ. What we see here in the middle of our text is that the debt that was owed by Elimelech, that had passed down to Chilion and Mahlon and thus to their wives at their death, was paid. Even though Orpah wasn't present the debt was paid for her too. Our lost loved ones, those we meet, and those we don't know have had the sin debt paid, have we told them? Did anyone tell her she had been bought with a price? What was done that day wasn't a secret, it was a public announcement. Did anybody tell her he would supply all her needs? This all applies spiritually to us all just as it did physically then. |
