Note Nehemiah didn’t pray for the enemies to be removed, the work to be lessened, nor for God to put someone else in his place. Nehemiah was after God to make him suitable for the task. He wanted strength in the face of being distracted. He needed strength in the face of discouragement. He wanted the tools God has for us to use to do the job. It may not have made much sense to him but he trusted God through it all. Distortion of the facts was staring him in the face but he wanted God to strengthen him.
