In verse 25 of this passage, Paul speaks of the "foolishness" and "weakness" of God. This is ironic because God is neither. God's plan offends everyone but those who are rescued by His grace out of the wicked world of darkness. The first part of verse 26 contains an imperative to consider their own situation. Those who are "the called" were mostly not prominent people, though there were some. Paul makes it clear that God made dead sinners alive through the gospel and thus reveals His wisdom and power. Those redeemed by God's grace are no longer who they were in the eyes of the lost world. This is a reversal that will show that no one can boast before God. It is a certain thing that all who are saved, by God's grace, were rescued from darkness. Many events in the Bible, mostly notably fulfilled prophesy, provide substantial, objective evidence that God has spoken and acted in history. Clearly, God does not consult man to find wisdom. What is truly foolish is for fallen humans to tell God how He should do things! The Bereans, mentioned in Acts 17:11-12 were called "noble-minded" for searching the scriptures! Many of them came to faith and ended up being persecuted. We end by discussing warnings given by Paul about not mistreating other believers based on false judgments.
