Those of us who believe the bible love it for the story. The story of creation: beauty, love, goodness and truth. The story includes the fall: rebellion, pain, addiction, heart break and death. And the story ends with redemption: love personified conquering death and restoring life.
We believe the bible because we love its hero. At some point, Jesus stopped being a character in the story and became real to us. We could not turn our eyes away, and we could not stop loving him no matter how hard we have tried.
Honestly believing the bible has always been unpopular and has often led to intense persecution. But a Christian just can't let go.
