1. One great secret (16:8a) - the secret of a contented life does not reside in our circumstances or material goods - the secret of David's contentment was found in that he had set the Lord always before him - that means the secret of contentment lies in a constant awareness of the presence of God - if we saw God in everything, it would transform our lives - David could see nothing had ever entered his life without God's superintendence and as a result could say the lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places
2. Three results from this secret (16:8b-9) - steadfastness (16:8b: "I shall not be moved...") - satisfaction (16:9a: "therefore my heart is glad..." - security (16:9b: "my flesh also shall rest in hope")
