We have reached the climax of this sublime love poem. The Shulamite is back home in the clasp of her Beloved. She asks to be his forever, to be cherished by him. She asks for a visible seal that she is in his heart and that she is the only one. Being “sealed with the Holy Spirit” (Eph. 1:13: 4:30) involves far more than a private, hidden transaction at the moment of salvation that guarantees our security in Christ. How can we know that we are “sealed” unless we see the marks of Christ's ownership of us? God authenticates us as His own by giving us His Holy Spirit in a way that is manifest to ourselves and others (Acts 2:33). Christ Himself received this certification by the Spirit at His baptism. It was visible. It was obvious. In the latter part of verse six and in verse seven, the Spouse gives the compelling reasons for her prayer to experience the “sealing” of her Beloved. These two reasons underscore the enduring strength of Christ's love to us, His Bride.
