In his sermon on speaking in tongues, Pastor Schwertley analyzes both biblical and modern tongues. What are tongues in the Bible? Are they real human languages or gibberish? Is the modern tonuges movement real or is it counterfeit? This sermon also contains a very interesting excursis on the Charismatic movement. This sermon will be a great benefit to both non-Charismatics and Charismatics alike. Pastor Schwertley goes to great lengths to back up everything he says with a careful exegesis of Scripture.

Great Sermon! I do love to listen to Pentecostalists claiming that a sign of being baptised in the Spirit is speaking in tongues. Always makes me smile. Paul wished that all that heard him spoke in tongues (1.Cor.14.5), and on the day of Pentecost foreign languages were heard (Acts.2.8-19), so many kinds "of voices" (1.Cor.14.10).
The book of the Acts remains history, and confirmation of the Old Testament, not teaching in the way that Pentecostalists would have it to be seen, many of which are rich and yet do not follow Peter (Acts.3.6). "Silver and gold have I none", now translated private jet and mansion have I.

Circular Reasoning Although I am considering the tounges issue I think this sermon is quite circular in reasoning.
To assume that 'the language of angels' would be constructed on the basis of earthly language (verbs, adverbs, etc)is to presume to much. A heavenly language may have a construct foreign to our understanding where in a few words there is a 'paragraph' of interpretation. Our greatest weakness is to look for a confirmation of what we believe rather than search for truth even to the detriment of our long held beliefs. Having come out of the charismatic movememt I am re-examinin everything but I can't afford to allow my (new) Reformed bias to dictate to scripture.

Pure Excellence! I couldn't agree with Mike more except to say this was the best sermon exposing this heresy that I've ever heard in my life. Thank you Pastor Brian from another former charismatic.
