"God did this to show Jonah that he cared more about a plant that came and went overnight than he did one of the oldest cities in the world, full of living breathing people created in the image of God and friends, that's a pretty damning indictment on the man of God isn't it? But how many of us have similar misplaced concerns? Maybe we're more concerned about winning a political victory than reaching the lost with the gospel? I think that's a real danger for Bible-believing Christians in our cultural climate right now. Many seem more interested in winning the culture war than seeing the lost come to Christ. But the irony is that the only way we're going to win this culture war is if the lost do come to Christ, so we can't just preach hellfire and then sit out on a hill to watch it all burn. We have to get into the city and love the unlovable with the saving gospel of Jesus Christ and then rejoice when through sovereign mercy, those who were once God's enemies are made His friends."
