Our world hungers for unity. And it is searching in all the wrong places. Recent headlines remind us that attempts at unity that do not originate from and depend upon God always will fail. True unity among people is possible only when they are united to God, and one another, through Jesus Christ. “For there is one body and one Spirit... one glorious hope for the future.” Ephesians 4:4 (NLT) God gives His redeemed people a unity that mirrors the unity enjoyed by God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. We, the church, are one, as God is One. Because we are one body in Christ, we desperately need others, and are needed by those others. Oneness has profound implications for the way we relate to one another. In the coming weeks, we’ll celebrate our unity and discover its profound implications for our relationships.
