Jesus did and said some things that, if He were not the God-man, would make him look like a self-absorbed lunatic. He claimed to be able to forgive people of their sins when only God can forgive sin because it is His Law that sinners break (Mark 2:5-12). He claimed that God's revelation in the past all spoke about Himself and what He would accomplish (Luke 24:25-27) despite being written before He was born. Now in Mark 14:22-26, not content with remembering and observing the Passover and with His own suffering and death at the forefront of His mind, He establishes a covenant meal that commemorates His own death. But we continue to commemorate Jesus's death in the institution of the Lord's Supper every Sunday (Lord's Day) because everything He said about Himself was true. "Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed" (1 Corinthians 5:7). From now on it will be His sacrifice that is remembered as accomplishing our salvation. What will happen to us if the doorposts of our lives are not covered with the blood of the new Passover lamb, Jesus Christ?
