"For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. 16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God." —Luke 1:15-16
Note the word "And" that links these two verses. John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother's womb AND...many in Israel were brought to repentance through his ministry. The key to his effectiveness as a witness for Christ to the lost was that he was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. That same power was seen on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the disciples. Christ said that when THAT happened, they would be endued with power and then they would be witnesses for Him.
The great need of the Church in this day of deep spiritual darkness is for Christians endued with the power of the Holy Spirit so they can be effective witnesses for Christ to turn the hearts of lost sinner to the Lord.
