Aim: To understand how the book of Judges leads us to Jesus.
Doctrine: Our immediate needs always point us to God's ultimate provision (Jesus). Temporal issues are real and legitimate, but eternal concerns are absolute and necessary.
Exegesis: What we learn from the ''wives for the Benjamites'' story: that failure to fight for the Lord is disastrous (vv. 8-14); that compromises with unwise vows sometimes have to be made (vv. 15-22); that Christ the King is our only hope (vv. 23-25).
Further application: How the church today is to relish Jesus, our sovereign head: by thanking the Father that the Messiah has come, and by being united to the King in our holy faith.
Key verse: v. 25 ''In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.''
