Much of the world's attention today is on the summer Olympics in Paris. Athletes from all over the world compete in their individual and team sports but only one receives the gold. The Christian life is like a race. It is not a 100- yard dash, but rather a long distance marathon! From the writer to the Hebrews wer learn that to finish well, we must first of all determine to run with endurance the race that is before us. This demands steady determination and a desire to win. To do so, we must secondly lay aside every weight and the sin that entangles us. Weight are perhaps harmless and innocent things that distract us from our devotion to Christ. The sin is that one sin with which we struggle and that holds us back from fully following the LORD. We need to shed some spiritual pounds if we are to run and win. But more importantly, as we run the race of life, we need to fix our eyes on Jesus! As the author and finisher of our faith, He ran the perfect race. He did so not for fun, but rather for joyful exultation in heaven. May we follow HIs lead, and the lead of others faithful witnesses, and run the race finishing well.
