Beginning in Phil 1:12, Paul finally reports to the Philippians how he is doing. Since finding out that Paul is in chains in Rome, the Philippians are concerned for his health, well-being, even his life. They are also concerned about the continued advance of the Gospel of Christ with Paul in prison.
Paul, however, reports that he is rejoicing! And this because God is using his circumstances and suffering to actually further the progress of the Gospel of Christ. And this he greatly rejoices.
Paul does not dwell on his adverse circumstances, but on what he knows God has ordained to do through them for His glory and the proclamation of Christ. We also should have the same Christ-centered attitude, trusting in the sovereignty of our gracious God in the midst of trial.
