Jesus had announced the arrival of the kingdom of God and declared that the people must repent and believe the Gospel. Previously on this same Sabbath day in Capernaum Jesus had delivered a man from demon possession. Now he goes to Peter and Andrew's house and heals Peter's mother-in-law of a high fever (Lu. 4:38) as well as many others who gathered outside in the evening. The delivering and healing ministry of Jesus were confirmatory signs that he was indeed the Son of God, the Messiah, the King of the kingdom of God. Jesus's healing ministry continued through the apostles and continues in the church. At the Resurrection his healing of our bodies and minds will be complete and final.
