Great Point, Justice Compromised! Bad interpretation has led to a false "love", which in fact is not love if it tolerates sin and "loves" the wicked. If love is a summary of the Ten Commandments than love must not compromise God's justice but uphold it. Mercy is only for the penitent, not rebels or the persistently wicked. (Mercy implies contrition by the guilty party confessed). Part of the reason is that we no longer sing Psalms (like this one).
Per 2 Chronicles 19:
And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord."
