SERMON INFO
The Book of Habakkuk begins by questioning God about the prevalence of injustice and violence in Judah, wondering why God seems to tolerate such wrongdoing. He asks God why He does not intervene to stop the wickedness and suffering around him. God responds by revealing that He will raise up the Chaldeans (Babylonians) as an instrument of judgment against Judah. This answer disturbs Habakkuk, as the Babylonians are even more wicked and ruthless than the people of Judah.

In the second chapter, Habakkuk positions himself on a watchtower, waiting for God's further response. God instructs him to write the vision plainly on tablets so that it may be easily understood. God then pronounces a series of "woes" against the Babylonians for their greed, violence, and idolatry. The chapter emphasizes that, although the Babylonians will be used as a tool of judgment, they too will ultimately face God's judgment. The central theme is that "the just shall live by his faith" (Habakkuk 2:4), highlighting the importance of faith and trust in God even when His ways are difficult to understand.

The final chapter is a prayer of Habakkuk, expressed as a psalm. It is a poetic reflection on God's past deeds of deliverance and a plea for God to revive His works in the present. Habakkuk recalls God's mighty acts in history, such as the deliverance of Israel from Egypt and the conquest of Canaan, and expresses confidence that God will again act to save His people. The book concludes with Habakkuk's declaration of faith and trust in God, even in the face of impending disaster, stating that he will rejoice in the Lord and find strength in Him, regardless of external circumstances
