We began today the exposition of Ruth (after last week’s introduction). This book really is like a drama, with acts and scenes. God created us to like stories and that is one of the chief ways he communicates to us: in stories. We saw last week that the main character of the book is actually Naomi, based on how the flow of the narrative tends to focus on her even when other subjects are in view. Today’s passage is the first scene in the first act, covering the movement of Naomi from Bethlehem to Moab and back. There are two decisions that Naomi makes that have radical impact on her life.
