Perhaps no other book in the Old Testament matches the grandeur and majesty of Isaiah. Regarded by many as the theologian of the Old Testament, Isaiah's prophetic ministry lays a foundation for redemptive history. He vividly describes man's depravity, the character of God, and the coming Messiah and new creation glories. Isaiah called Judah to repentance throughout his ministry and prepared them for the coming judgment that would ruin their land. At the same time, he also preached the hope of restoration, foretelling of the new creation glories to come for the remnant of God's people—those who are humble and contrite in spirit and who tremble at his word (66:2). The key to unlocking these new creation glories is Jesus Christ. John tells us that Isaiah saw Jesus' glory during his throne room vision in Isaiah 6 (John 12:38-41), and Peter shows in his first epistle that Jesus is Isaiah's suffering servant by whose blood we are healed (1 Pet. 2:24; Isa. 53:5).
