Protection, provision, defense of self and loved ones, law enforcement, military, and capital punishment are all Biblically justified times in which killing may be necessary. Many misinterpret Jesus's admonition to "turn the other cheek" as a call to constant pacifism, but Jesus was addressing "lex talionis" (an eye for an eye and a tooth for tooth) in terms of personal vengeance. There is a difference between taking the law into your own hands and defending yourself and others.
