Many misinterpret Jesus's admonition to "turn the other cheek" as a call to constant pacifism, but Jesus was addressing "lex talionis" (an eye for an eye and a tooth for tooth) in terms of personal vengeance. There is a difference between taking the law into your own hands and defending yourself and others.
