Psalm 39 is a wisdom psalm in light of our impending death. God sends trials and chastisements to wake us up. When life is uncomfortable, make resolutions to: pour out your lament to God and not to man, remember your mortality, and remember God's mercy. David requests that God would renew his mind, to remind him that his life is a vapor and that he would live in light of that. He also requests that God would remove His hand from him. Although David knows that he deserves God's discipline, he remembers the loving character of God and asks to be delivered in His mercy.
