III. The Indignation the Lord Jesus Felt Doctrine: The Emotional Range of Jesus
IV. The Reception That Jesus Commanded A. Start Allowing Them B. Stop Hindering Them
V. The Challenge That Jesus Issues Doctrine: Childlikeness
VI. The Blessing that Jesus Imparted Doctrine: Baptism Paedobaptist Presuppositions: 1. Since Jesus received the children of believers; and 2. Since Jesus actually said that the kingdom of God belongs to them (children of believers); 3. Therefore Jesus regarded them to be members of God's Covenant People and thus proper candidates for baptism
We reject this passage teaching anything about infant baptism because:
1. Eisegesis: It is false to assume that the people bringing children to Jesus were in fact believers themselves 2. Eisegesis: Jesus does not actually declare the children are in fact members of the kingdom of God 3. Eisegesis: Jesus is not addressing who is included in the Covenant Community of God. Jesus is addressing the dispositon of those who would enter the Kingdom of God. 4. We know clearly from other passages of scripture that deal specifically with baptism that only those who have faith and confidence in God are candidates for baptism.
Application
1. Children matter to the Master: The importance of providing for the spiritual needs of our children. 2. The seriousness of misprepresenting the Lord Jesus Christ - even by His own people. 3. The Primary Point of This Passage: Humbleness must be present for all who would come to Christ.
