When God created the world He blessed the man and woman and He blessed the Sabbath. The world was to be His place to meet with us but we hid from God. When He separated a nation to Himself He had them build the tabernacle as His place to meet with Him. In Exodus, the plans for the temple were immediately follow by the covenant of the Sabbath and the construction of the tabernacle was immediately preceded by another reminder of the Sabbath. So when the Temple was built it was to be a place of Sabbath rest where we can enjoy the fellowship of God in His forgiveness.
