This eleventh message on the Biblical family places a focus on our attitude toward food, clothing and money in general. Jesus had just finished making two points: (1) warning a man about the danger of covetousness (greed) regarding the family inheritance; and (2) telling a parable about a foolish rich man who had laid up treasure for himself and was not rich toward God. Our passage builds on these truths when Jesus tells His disciples to RELAX (stop being anxious) about your life (eating/staying alive) and your body (clothing/covering). He wanted them to REFLECT (observe/contemplate) on both ravens and lilies: ravens neither sow nor reap - yet God feeds them; lilies neither toil nor spin - yet they have surpassing glory. The disciples were far more valuable and cared for than birds and flowers - God would take care of them. Jesus gave them seven commands to REVIVE them - three negative and four positive: stop pursuing food, being anxious or afraid, and be seeking HIS kingdom, letting go of worldly goods.
