God glorifies Jesus through His enemies. Pilate's flogging: Pilate's flogging shows Jesus' humanity (1) Soldiers' mocking: The soldiers' mocking shows Jesus' glory (2) Adorning Him with kingly attire (2) The crown of thorns (2a) The purple robe (2b) Announcing, “Hail, King of the Jews” (3a) Striking Him with their hands (3b) Pilate's proclaiming: Pilate's proclamations show Jesus' nature (4-6) His innocence (4, 6) His humanity (5) Jews' bloodlusting: The Jews' calls for crucifixion show God's plan (6-7) Calling for His crucifixion “Crucify, Crucify!” (6) Justifying it by their Law (7) Pilate's fearing: Pilate fears Jesus (8-10) Superstitious about deity (8) Asserting his authority (9) Jesus establishes God's authority over events (10-11) Applications: God will always glorify Jesus—and so should we! God's sovereignty demands our obedience!
