The world has seen some bizarre attempts at reaching widespread unity. One such attempt is well expressed in the following ancient poem:
"My heart has opened unto every form. It is a pasture for gazelles, a cloister for Christian monks, a temple for idols, the Ka'ba of the pilgrim, the tablets of the Torah and the book of the Quran. I practice the religion of Love; in whatsoever directions its caravans advance, the religion of Love shall be my religion and my faith" (From the 12th Century http://www.thespiritualun.org/love.htm)
While many have grasped for unity between people in many ways, Scripture directs God's people along the path of true, lasting unity that truly does surprise a squabbling world. This is what God's people are called to.
