The first century Christians had a privilege that we don't enjoy. They could write a letter to an apostle and actually receive an answer! The Corinthians wrote to Paul for some clarification: Should the unmarried remain unmarried? Should those who ARE married avoid intimacy, to give themselves more single-mindedly to God's service? Is it acceptable for WIDOWS to remarry? Is it appropriate for a wife or husband who really wants to serve Christ wholeheartedly to LEAVE HIS/HER SPOUSE in order to be more fully devoted to the Lord? After all, didn't Jesus talk about forsaking father and mother and wife and children to follow Him? What about Jesus' words, that "some men have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake?" This sermon underscores the benefits of the single life, speaks directly to husbands and wives who "deprive one another," and talks clearly about the gift of celibacy. It should be heard by everyone who is single and everyone who is married, which should cover, by my calculations, just about everyone.
