Its hard to overstate the importance of giving regular, consistent attention to our spiritual condition and effort to those things that will facilitate our spiritual growth. Anything that is alive and growing needs attention, nourishment and care. This principle is axiomatic. It is a law woven into the fabric of all created, living things.
Oswald Chambers offers Christians everywhere this timely admonition: 'You no more need a day off from spiritual concentration in matters of your life than your heart needs a day off from beating. As you cannot take a day off morally and remain moral, you cannot take a day off spiritually and remain spiritual.'
Our spiritual life needs regular 'cardio-care.' Check your spiritual pulse...How is it? Regular or Rapid? Strong or Faint? Steady or Erratic? We are reminded in our passage tonight to 'be filled with the Spirit' (Eph. 5:18). This is the key. Christians are to be Spirit-filled men and women of God living lives that have been set on fire by God. Samuel Chadwick wrote:
'Spirit-filled souls are ablaze for God. they love with a love that glows They serve with a faith that kindles. They serve with a devotion that consumes. They hate sin with fierceness that burns. They rejoice with a joy that radiates. Love is perfected in the fire of God.' Wow! Is that you? If not, listen and find out why as we explore what it means to be 'filled with the Spirit.'
