The shortest verse in the Bible, and the one that everyone quotes as a joke when put on the spot to say a Bible verse, is "Jesus wept." But those two little words are so full of the revelation of the heart of God to man that it is blasphemous to laugh when it is quoted. Jesus wept! Why did He weep? He wept because of the sorrow of the people who were gathered that day because their loved one had died. Jesus partook of their sorrow, and as He did He was partaking in all the combined sorrow of all people who have ever lived. He "...took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men." "Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows." He put himself there that day, at that hour, on purpose, in order to show us that He knows what our grief and loss feels like. He tasted not only our grief, but death itself, so that He could be that High Priest who has truly been touched with the feeling of our infirmities. What a blessed Savior!
