We wonder how apostasy happens, and we stand in amazement when we see people forsake the truths and commitments they have long stood for. It should not be such a mystery to us. The devil is the great seducer, who deceives, beguiles, and devours. He is the accuser of the brethren, and so he will always be on YOUR side, and will always be pointing out every injustice done to you, and reminding you that you deserve much better than what you have. We are looking the wrong way for the devil and he slips in with flattery and sweet talks us into believing his lies.
