Having considered the believer's entrance into union with Christ, and then the nature of the union itself – all of which is known only by revelation in the word of God – we are now to the first aspect of the believer's responsibility. Since we have already been united to Christ if we are genuine Christians, we are told by Jesus Himself that we must “abide in Him.” That is, we must remain where we have been planted; we must “stay put” in the position into which we have been placed. Jesus presented this responsibility in relation to an important truth about Himself – and He gave it to His original disciples in the form of an allegory in John 15:4. This section of the series continues with the exposition of what it means, spiritually, to be “united in Christ.” Tonight's message examines the section on the Forensic Dimensions of this truth. We will explore the legal reality of all that has been promised to, and accomplished for, those who are ”in Christ.” The legal dilemma of Man is how can a sinful person acquire the righteous standing that is acceptable to a Holy God. The challenge for God is how to accept a sinful person while maintaining the righteous requirements of Holy Justice. God accomplishes this act of Mercy by paying the penalty required of sin Himself, through the sacrifice of His own sinless Son, Jesus. This act of “Justification” is examined in detail as it applies tto God, Justice and sinful Man. This message reviews and expands upon the previous part 1.
A course notebook for this series is in preparation and will become available at the conclusion of the course.
