As we walk with the Lord and desire to live Holy lives that will please Him, we find that there are certain areas of our lives where we fail continually. these besetting sins are the hardest of all to deal with on a moment by moment basis. As we look further into the area of besetting sins, we find that there are two things that we must pay attention to in the Word of God. First of all God is pleased by faith and without faith it is impossible to please Him. So what is it that He would have us trust Him for in this area of besetting sins? In Romans six we find that the victory was won on the cross by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Just as He died on the cross to save us from the guilt of sin, so He also died that we would be set free from the power of sin. Thus we are to no longer be slaves to sin. Since we are identified with Him in His death, burial and resurrection to newness of life, we are to consider ourselves as dead to sin but alive to god. This is the doctrine or truth that we are to believe when it comes to our own besetting sins. In Christ our old man was crucified with Him so that we can now moment by moment consider ourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus
