This sermon, the last in a series of seven (by Rutherford) on the prodigal son, is read by elder Lyndon Dohms and taken from the book Quaint Sermons of Samuel Rutherford. Here Rutherford contrasts true gospel obedience with that which is false and hypocritical. While encouraging faithful covenanters to persevere -- no matter how hard the practical covenanted path or opposition to the way of truth becomes -- Rutherford also comments on the biblical way to handle the scorn that the world and hypocrites always heap upon those they call "separatists" and "puritans."
