This passage is a continuation of chapter eleven. During the reign of the Antichrist, the people of Israel will go through great tribulation. Michael the archangel, who has always served God as the protector of Israel, will stop defending them, and allow the Antichrist to take them into great distress, travail and trouble. God will provide protection and deliverance on earth to those Jews who heed His warnings and flee into the wilderness. Eventually those Jews who have died will be resurrected to receive God's eternal blessing or His eternal curse. The wise, those who have believed and followed the truth, will literally shine brightly forever and ever. Daniel was to stop writing his prophecy at this time and was to preserve it for future readers to benefit from.
