I. How people can avoid God and the Gospel (vv. 1-21) They deliberately avoided what Paul was preaching — the resurrection of Jesus Christ. That was what he had preached and what offended the people. That topic would have stopped them, they would have had to consider the OT, Christ’s claim, the witnesses who saw Christ, the miracles accompanying the disciples, etc. They avoided the most important claim of Paul and deliberately pursued a different line of prosecution. It was the main issue! II. How people can postpone dealing with Christ and the Gospel (vv. 22-27) Paul’s message struck a chord and his answer was to postpone it. It appears Drusilla was no longer with him when he listened to Paul at other occasions! She probably had enough. • “he sent for him often and conversed with him.” — he heard it many times but never ever committed himself to the Lord. His agenda was to get money and he probably learned how to harden himself from actually benefitting from the teaching! III. Let us see how easily man can resist the Gospel. Don’t hold back, repent and call upon the Lord. Today is the day of your salvation. Why will you hold off and postpone what will bring joy to your soul?
