The Lord now makes a sharp and sudden departure from speaking of the elimination of false shepherds (prophets) from Israel at the end of the Great Tribulation. He now begins to speak of the True Shepherd and what His fate will be. This prophecy was given in 485 B.C., so the True Shepherd would not be on the earth for another 485 years. Jehovah God gave the Jews at least two prophecies of both false prophets and the true prophets. On the one hand He said, “1 If there arise in the midst of thee a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and he give thee a sign or a wonder, 2and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or unto that dreamer of dreams: for Jehovah your God proveth (is testing) you, to know whether ye love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul (Deuteronomy 13:1-3).
